The Beat Excavation

The Beat Excavation is a youth project, which aims to track down musicians with links to Slough and document some of their adventures in music. The result is a unique and fascinating oral history of Slough’s diverse musical heritage, and a revealing insight into the town’s significance to the wider musical world.

What does music heritage mean to you? Ancestors.


Meranda Peart

Position: Research / Editorial Assistant.
General Interests: Art, especially contemporary artists such as Sarah
Graham, Jia Aili, Victor Castillo and Francesca DiMattio.
Favourite music: I love the 80s funk sound for example Prince – I just
find his music so experimental and interesting, but more recently I
really like Mos Def’ music. His flow and attitude is always cool. He’s
also a very conscientious person with an opinion.
What does music heritage mean to you? Like fashion or art, music
trends are always being revisited. As we learn about what musicians
have done before we can create something fresh for the future; we can
also learn from and be inspired by our musical “predecessors”.

where you came from and knowing where the things and people you
love came from, showing respect to them without pastiche,
